Here's a good write-up for people used to Quicken. It's incredibly flexible and you can create just about any account hierarchy that you can imagine. You can import transaction data from QIF/OFX/HBCI files. So I'm stuck downloading transactions from the Vanguard website and importing them into Banktivity. GnuCash is a free open-source accounting software. my Banktivity 7 hasn't downloaded transactions through their Direct Download (same as Direct Connect) for over 5 months now.and they've announced they won't even work on it any more since they just released version 8 (at an annual subscription fee). The main attraction of Quicken is that they download transactions 'automatically' through their own aggregation processes, saving me the headache of logging in to each and every financial institution and eliminating a lot of steps.īut I'm not unreasonable to believe that this process can't get messed up rather easily. sometime in the future.Īnd while a 'Web Connect' type of data file import may be more accurate, it isn't what I'm paying for with Quicken. Perhaps a universal method of creating a downloadable importable secure data file would be the best method.

If there's an issue on Mint and in Quicken, the problem usually isn't software related. Mint seems to be my litmus test, especially since Intuit's Mint seems to provide the same servers for Quicken Inc.

And of course the 'tweakers' never contact Quicken.because, well why would they even think of that? Whenever some 'genius' decides they want to tweak a website, that breaks the connection or screen scraper process that Quicken and other financial software products use. I would imagine it's difficult to maintain a solid connection between over 50,000 US banks every single day.
